Dovey Dog was created in 2021 by Hali and myself. Our business adventure was rooted in our love for creativity, pets and the environment. We had both professionally worked with dogs for over a decade, and were a few years into our individual sustainability journeys.
We started with tons of ideas around repurposing and upcycling everyday items into pet goodies, scrounging thrift stores and accumulating objects to repurpose. Bandanas were originally only a small part of our collection, but quickly became our most popular item. We shifted our focus, but still wanted to be mindful of the impact our actions could have on the planet. For this reason, we have never purchased fabric new. All fabric based products are sourced from thrifted textiles, like sheets, pillowcases, curtains, and more! These materials are then sanitized and handmade into unique, small batch bandanas. We are very conscious of our fabric selections and don't offer many "novelty" or seasonal specific prints. Instead, we choose colors and patterns that fit seasonal themes, but aren't limited to only be worn during those times. This is intentional, as we want to do our part in contributing to a less disposable society. Our bandanas are machine washable and are meant to be worn again and again!
Devastatingly, in June of 2022, Hali passed away. However, she is still very much a part of Dovey Dog and is the reason why I often refer to our company as "us" and "we". While our products have changed, and will continue to evolve over time, our mission will remain the same: to create unique items that are pet and planet conscious.
